Pennsylvania’s Troegs Brewing has never gotten the national recognition it deserves, and their Perpetual IPA is a case study in that gap. It’s a legitimate West Coast IPA that drinks cleaner and more balanced than beers that cost twice as much and carry five times the hype.Perpetual pours a clear amber with a modest white head. The aroma is citrus and pine โ€” a familiar IPA profile executed with precision. The difference is in the malt: Troegs uses a substantial grain bill that gives Perpetual a caramel-touched breadiness the hops play against rather than overwhelm. This is a beer where “balanced” means both elements are genuinely present, not that one is missing. At 7.5% ABV and 85 IBUs, it’s in the upper tier of single IPAs. The bitterness is assertive but clean, finishing dry without the lingering scrape you get from over-hopped beers. Medium-full body, solid carbonation. Drinkable despite its gravity.Troegs has expanded distribution steadily in recent years, but they’re still not everywhere. If you’re in Mid-Atlantic territory, Perpetual is a benchmark for what a regional IPA should aspire to โ€” well-made, consistently fresh from their Hershey, PA facility, and priced without pretension.๐Ÿบ Style: American IPA๐Ÿ“Š ABV: 7.5% ยท IBU: 85๐Ÿญ Brewery: Troegs Independent Brewing โ€” Hershey, PAโ˜… Rating: 4.3/5Perpetually underrated.
