Brewery: Miel Brewery & Taproom | Location: New Orleans, LA
Style: Hibiscus Sour Ale | ABV: 5.2% | Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
New Orleans is a city built on bold flavors and unexpected combinations, so it’s fitting that one of its best breweries just won gold at the 2025 Great American Beer Festival. Miel’s Flor de Jamaica is a vibrant, layered hibiscus sour with sea salt and cinnamon.
Appearance
Pours a stunning deep magenta-ruby, clear and bright, with a delicate pink tinge to the white foam. Easily one of the most beautiful beers you’ll ever pour.
Aroma
Tart hibiscus and dried cranberry lead, with a floral sweetness underneath. A pinch of cinnamon and a hint of sea salt add depth and intrigue.
Taste
Starts with a bright, refreshing tartness — hibiscus forward, almost like a sparkling agua fresca. The cinnamon comes in mid-palate, warming and exotic. The sea salt ties everything together on the finish.
Mouthfeel
Light-to-medium bodied, effervescent, and incredibly refreshing.
Bottom Line
Flor de Jamaica is a masterpiece of flavor layering. Approachable enough for sour skeptics, complex enough for serious beer geeks, and gorgeous enough to stop a conversation. Gold medal — absolutely deserved.
