The Review
Good People built their reputation on bold, hop-forward ales. Snake Handler. The IPA. El Gordo. Their brand DNA is big flavor and uncompromising bitterness. So when they released Muchacho — a clean, crushable Mexican-style lager — it raised some eyebrows in the taproom.
Those eyebrows were wrong.
Muchacho pours pale gold with excellent clarity and a white head that disappears quickly, as a proper lager should. The nose is grain-forward with a hint of corn sweetness and a clean, faintly floral hop note. On the palate it’s crisp, refreshing, and startlingly well-made — the kind of beer that reminds you why lager brewing is hard and why most craft breweries avoid it.
In an Alabama summer, this is the move. It’s what you order after you’ve had the Snake Handler and your palate needs a reset. It’s what you put in a cooler for the float trip. It’s what you pour for the friend who “doesn’t really like craft beer” and then watch them ask for another.
Good People doing a Mexican lager isn’t a pivot. It’s a demonstration of range. And Muchacho is genuinely great — which is the most Good People thing about it.
